PWSI Icebreaker 2007
Destiny won its division of the PWSI Icebreaker on March 24-25, 2007.
The team won all 4 games, with a total of 11 points scored and 0 points allowed in the entire tournament!

The Team:

• Destiny’s core values are player development within a team framework, sportsmanship, and respect for all people involved in the game – teammates, opponents, referees and coaches. From its start, Destiny has been a team that emphasizes friendships among its players and the involvement and support of parents.

• Destiny believes that the game is the best teacher and that the coach’s role is to guide players to learn from playing and enjoying the game. In training, players are put into situations that require solving problems and making decisions.

• Destiny is a team for serious soccer players. It requires a commitment to soccer as your primary sport, and it requires maintaining a schedule that avoids or handles conflicts in a responsible manner. However, it also understands that on occasion a valid conflict may arise. Players are treated as adults and encouraged to communicate their needs to the coaching staff.

• Destiny encourages its players to participate in high school sports on the understanding that their commitment to the Destiny is balanced equally and fairly with the commitment to a high school team.

• Destiny will enter college showcase tournaments over the next year to allow those members of the team who are interested in playing college soccer to be seen by college coaches. The coaches will guide and help players navigate the college recruitment process.

• As WAGS rules permit U17 teams to expand their roster to 22 players, this is a unique opportunity for you to join our team. The team is likely to add 4-6 players this June.

• Destiny tryouts are open to any interested player. Each June, all players, including players currently on the roster, must tryout for the team. Incumbent players have a slight advantage over new players as the team values loyalty, continuity, and proven contribution to the team and its values.

• Destiny has played and will continue to play WAGS in both the fall and spring, as it has players who play high school soccer in both the spring and fall seasons.

• Destiny comprises players from Fairfax, Arlington and Loudoun counties. It welcomes players from any county and community.

The Coach:

• The Destiny is coached by Trevor Parker. Trevor played professional soccer in England for 16 years, where he scored 204 goals in 560 appearances as a forward and midfielder. He played for a number of clubs in his career, including the Tottenham Hotspurs of the English Premier League. Since immigrating to the United States, he has become a director of coaching for MYS and is considered one of the finest coaches in the area. In addition to the Destiny, his most recent coaching assignments were:

------McLean MPS Celtic, who recently finished its final season in first place of NCSL Div 1 (U18) with a record of 9-0-0 while scoring 27 goals versus 7 goals against. They were a State Cup final four team and earned many championships and finalists in nationally ranked tournaments.

------McLean MPS Olympic, which is a NCSL Div 1 (U13) team, recently won the 2007 U13 Virginia State Championship.

• Trevor has earned a number of UEFA and NSCAA licenses, including the NSCAA National Diploma with a Distinguished Pass.

• Trevor believes in developing each individual player’s technical ability to enable the team to maintain ball possession and break the opponent team’s defense with accurate passing and penetrating runs. His training sessions focus on first touch, speed of play, passing, shooting, 1v1 attack and defense, and the mental and physical requirements of playing at a high level. He establishes a standard of excellence through positive reinforcement and specific instruction.
